Bardolino Chiaretto

The „Bardolino Chiaretto“ wine is the expression of the rose wine for the part of the Garda Lake bordering Veneto und Verona. Its name comes from its light shades of red. The tradition of the rose wines in Bardolino has very deep roots. Probably it goes back to the ancient Romans’ epoque, as witnessed by the use of the winepress (that generally doesn’t involve the maceration on the skins, with the following poor release of colour) discovered in the rustic villas of the old Cisalpine Gaul.

As for the red versions of the “Bardolino Classico” (click here), also for the production of the “Bardolino Chiaretto” a predominant role is played by the red berry variety “Corvina Veronese” (here often combined with little additions of “Rondinella” and “Molinara”). It is the main grape variety in this zone and it has a very important role also in another wine area of Verona, not far from Bardolino: the Valpolicella.

The area of production of the “Bardolino Chiaretto Classico” is characterized by a unique pedo-climatic context, where the near Garda Lake creates a mild climate, with balanced rainfalls and a not extreme thermal shock between day and night, where the “Prealpi Veronesi” protect the grapevines from the freezing winds of North Europe.

In addition to this climatic context, we can observe a very diversified composition of the ground (in 2002 12 different types of ground were identified) made by moraine deposits of an old glacier that melted thousand of years ago), sandy, gravelly and clay soils for an equally differentiated number of styles of “Bardolino rosé”.

The “Bardolino Chiaretto”, created also in another version of sparkling wine through the “Charmat” or “Marinotti” method of the refermentation in autoclave (same process used for the Prosecco) is perfect for the aperitif or for an informal pre-dinner; with its light structure and its citrus and floral tones, it can be an ideal pairing for appetizers of cold cuts (for example the raw ham), of fish and also of vegetables, like a summer salad.
